Types of Liposuction

There are numerous different types of liposuction that can be done and each has its own benefits for different patients. If you are considering liposuction, there are different types of liposuction procedures you should be aware of, you may discuss it with a plastic surgeon first before scheduling your schedule.

Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL) it is a very specific type of plastic surgery that involves a localized anesthesia and gel that reacts to ultrasonic sound waves. The gel is injected in the area that is being treated, the sound then causes the gel to move tearing up the fat cells with very small pain or discomfort then it will allow the body to flush them out naturally. They use high-frequency energy from ultrasound to rupture fat cells and remove them prior to suctioning. The UAL procedure can be either internal or external.

External UAL is an addition to SAL as some surgeons believe that it improves the outcome. A device placed outside the body release energy through the skin and soft tissue to the fat. Commonly, internal UAL is performed as a two-step process, the ultrasound probe is inserted first to liquefy the fat before inserting the canulla to the same incision to extract it.

Tumescent Liposuction is one of the most ordinary forms of liposuction. A large volume of saline solution typically contains a local anesthesia and a vasoconstrictor – a drug that is used to tighten the blood vessels in order to lessen fluid and blood loss. In tumescent liposuction, a general anesthetic is normally used to inject into the fatty tissue that is to be removed. This type of liposuction is normally used in facial and neck liposuction. After this procedure, many patients can get up and walk without assistance, they are usually back to their regular routine in a couple of days.

Traditional Liposuction is generally quite expensive and has a higher risk associated with the procedure and recovery. This is the removal of unwanted bulges and areas of fat using thin suction tubes or cannula that are placed into the body fat through small incisions. It is typically performed by using general anesthesia. Due to the effect or anesthesia, time is of the essence and larger instruments are used to speed fat removal.

However, you may want to know more about these different types of liposuction with a surgeon before considering to undergo to the procedure itself.
