During liposuction it’s the cosmetic surgeon who decides how much fat can be removed with liposuction per area being operated on and the actual amount is sometimes dependent on how the area to be treated should look like after the surgery is completed.

Liposuction also known as lipoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that was invented way back in 1974 and grew in popularity in North America in the 1980’s as a quick way to lose fat and get the desired shape of a specific area of the body. The surgical procedure involves the use of anesthetic and incisions made by a liposuction surgeon near the areas of the body to be treated.

The liposuction surgeon uses stainless steel tubes called cannulas to removed fat deposits from tissue and then extricates them out through the tubes via a vacuum attached to cannulas by a hose. The cosmetic surgeon would continually move the cannulas back and forth to dislodge fatty deposits from the areas being treated like the abdomen or tummy area, the hips, and the thighs or the lower legs. This caused bleeding and trauma, to the surrounding tissue and skin, resulting in hematomas and friction burn.

Expert opinion will say that the most amount or the maximum amount of fat that can be safely removed by liposuction per treatment is 4 pounds of fat, any more than that carry’s big risk for the patient, but nowadays, simultaneous operations on a single day on one patient is being performed and in some instances cosmetic surgeons are disclosing and often times declaring in public through the Internet that they are taking more than 4 lbs. of fat per treatment from one patient and in some instances liposuction surgeons have taken more than 10 pounds of fat from a single patient which definitely heightens the risk of complications for their patients.
